IEP Services

Welcome!  We are looking forward to working with your child to meet their individual learning goals.  The BJHS campus offers several levels of special education support including resource, co-taught, mainstreaming, strategies class, and specialized classrooms.  The IEP team at BJHS is dedicated to meeting the needs of the students with special needs.  Each student with an identified disability and eligibility for special education services is provided with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) that targets specific needs and provides appropriate goals, services, accommodations, and supports so that each student in our program has the opportunity to be successful in school.

The BJHS IEP Services team currently includes 7 full time special education teachers, a school psychologist, a clerk, and paraprofessionals.  Itinerant staff include the speech and language pathologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, vision specialist, hearing specialist, and adaptive PE.

For more information on District services, please visit CUSD's District Special Education website.

Parents of students with IEPs

Please contact your child's case manager for information regarding IEP meetings and documentation, and questions about your child's classes.  If you have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Regina Wetzler, IEP Services Department Chair.

If you are a parent of a student without an IEP, but have questions about IEP services, please contact Regina Wetzler, IEP Services Department Chair directly.

Program Description and Student Placement

Bogle Junior High offers many supports for students with IEP's depending on each individual students needs.  Below is a list of terminology you may hear during IEP meetings regarding placement for services.

Mainstreamed: Students are placed in general education classes for all classes with use of accommodations and little direct specialized instruction.  These students are functioning on or close to grade level.

Inclusion: Students are included in general eduacation classes with use of accommodations and remedial teaching during strategies class.  These students are also able to function on or close to grade level, but do require some reteaching of concepts or organizational or behavioral support.

Resource: Students are in a special education setting with fewer number of students and taught by a Special Education teacher who is also Highly Qualified in that content area.  Students in these classes are performing 3-4 grade levels below their current grade.  Remedial teaching of basic skills takes place in this class, as well as working on grade level concepts.

Co-taught: A special education teacher co-teaches in the general education setting.  Students placed in co-taught classes must qualify in that area (i.e. math, reading, writing, etc).

Para-Assisted: A special education paraprofessional attends the general education classroom to assist students in those classes.  The para professionals often help with organization and behavioral management and or small group instruction/assistance during independent work time.

Specialized Classroom: These classes are specific for students with IEP's only.  Students attend core classes in a setting that best fits their ability level.

Student Placement

In order to ensure that each child's individual needs are being met, the IEP team reviews each student's Individual Education Plan, previous grades, attendance, past schedules, parent input, and state testing results.

Once all information is gathered and reviewed, the level of support in each academic area is determined based on the current eligibility, IEP, student needs, student skills, parent input and availability of support personnel.
